The chant of the Upper Middle Ages

Beginning with the vocal recital, this workshop explores the modal system and the improvisational frameworks of the Gregorian chant. Participants will learn several short pieces of the Carolingian repertory en then do further work with the imporvistional ideas which structure and organize these melodies. Participants will have the chance to work on the 12th century improvisatory formulas for the practice of the organum intended for the lead singer, and for unison and polyphonic singing (e.g. Songs of Trouvères)
This workshop is open for musicians, singers and non-singers. Maximum 15 participants.
