Workshop

Nitin Sawhney

In Nitin Sawhney's most recent album 'Human', each track is lyrically driven, conveying a certain mood using everything from the Urban Soul Orchestra (four string players recorded in his living room) to the 150-piece South Indian Full Harmonic Orchestra. Also featured on the album is the virtuoso flautist Ronu Majumdar, percussionist and long-term collaborator Steve Shehan, and bass player Eric Appapoulay. The album also reflects Sawhney's current influences, ranging from Turin Brakes and Massive Attack, to The Streets, drum n' bass act London Elektricity, and flamenco artist Paco de Lucia. The workshop will offer an opportunity for participants to experience and collaborate with Nitin's wide musical perspective and will include pitch and timing, exercises involving listening and singing simultaneously, improvising themes and ideas, rhythmic cycles, clapping in time with voices and harmony. It will explore different singing techniques and experimentation. Participants need to be enthusiastic, musical, interesting, edgy and keen to learn, collaborate and improvise.
