Claron McFadden

The American soprano Claron McFadden studied voice at the Eastman School of music, and received her bachelor’s degree with distinction in 1984. In the same year she moved to the Netherlands, where she currently resides, and has proven herself to be one of the most versatile singers of her generation.

Claron McFadden is equally at home with Oratorio, working with such conductors as Jos van Immerseel (Johannes Passion, Buxtehude Cantatas), and Frans Brüggen (c mol messe, Exsultate Jubilate).Because of her versatility, Claron McFadden has found herself often asked to perform with jazz musicians, such as the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, Michiel Borstlap Chris Hinze,  and Aka Moon.In August 2006, Claron Mcfadden was awarded the “Amsterdam Prize for the Arts”.

The workshop will focus on the connection and separation of the voice and the body. This will be explored through the medium of “Free Improvisation” both physically and vocally. She will incorporate various techniques of improvisation (imitation, repetition, deconstruction, commentary, description, speed variation, etc), both physically and vocally, with “free improvisation” as the red line throughout the workshop.

Use of one canon as the starting point for the work and finish by making a piece using this canon and incorporating improvisation (physical and vocal) into our piece.
