Biography Sainkho Namtchylak (Tuva)

Sainkho Namtchylak is an extraordinary singer from Tuva, between Siberia and Mongolia, an important cradle of bi-phonic singing. In times of globalization and declining traditions, Sainkho is an attempt to investigate the ways artists deal with the phenomenon of missing links. She combines musical elements from her nomadic past with the world of drum 'n bass, hip hop and jazz. Sainkho is the avantgardistic face of comtemporary Tuvan folk. She was a member of the National Ensemble of Tuva and experimented with different European artist she met in Moscow, Vienna, Berlin and Rome. She performed with incredible numbers of musicians as diverse as bass players Peter Kowald, William Parker and Joelle Leandre, drummers Hamid Drake and Vladimir Tarasov, saxophonists Evan Parker and Ned Rothenberg, the duduk master Djivan Gasparyan, the Russian group TRI-O, Sergey Kuryokhin´s Pop-Mechanics and The Moscow Composers Orchestra.
