Biography Arto Lindsay (Brazil)

In the late 1970s, Arto Lindsay began making music with DNA in New York without any musical training but with a surfeit of ideas. Later Lindsay began to consider singing as a skill one could master, or at least show some improvement in, and not a once in a lifetime chance to simultaneously seduce and overwhelm the world. At that point he began to listen obsessively to samba and bossa nova records and to attempt to emulate them. Also at this time Lindsay fiddled around with various combinations of experimental and traditional styles. He formed a group called the Christmas Rose Choir, that consisted of improvising and more traditional singers and tried to get them involved in some enthusiastic non-singing. Later Lindsay worked as a producer with some remarkable singers ranging from Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa and Marisa Monte from Brazil to Waldemar Bastos from Angola and Ua from Japan. Recently he has been releasing his own records and touring with his own band, still intent on improving his singing.
