Biography Barbara Bonney (USA)

Barbara Bonney is widely recognized as a superlative recital and concert artist and as one of the great Mozart singers of her generation. Her "Sophie" in Strauss' Rosenkavalier is legendary. She has been praised for her radiant tone and the engaging warmth of her personality, as well as for her stylistic versatility in a broad repertoire that ranges from the Baroque to 20th century music. She has worked with the most important conductors and orchestras in the world today.

Barbara Bonney has appeared at the major opera houses all over the world, and numerous summers at the Salzburg Festival. In her 30 year career, she has toured in the Far East, Australia and Europe with the Symphony Australia, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, the Camerata Salzburg and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Over the past decade has specialized in the genre of Lied, and has performed close to 500 different art songs.

Since October 2007 she is connected to the Mozarteum in Salzburg as Professor of Voice, and will also teach as a guest Professor at the Royal Academy of Music in Salzburg.
