Biography Maria Husmann (GERMANY)

Maria Husmann's career as a singer, actress and teacher spans more than forty years. As a 14 year old girl she sang at the Flensburg Stadttheater/Volkstheater; in 1999 she sang in Milan"s Scala. After studies in Singing and Pedagogic in Hamburg, she became a member of the ensemble of the Staatsoper Hamburg and later of Staatsoper Stuttgart and Nationaltheater München. From 1985 on she has worked as a free-lance singer and actress.
As a specialist in new music and musical theatre she became friends and worked with composers and directors such as Aribert Reimann, Hans Werner Henze, George Crumb, György Kurtag, Philip Glass, Mark-Anthony Turnage, Harrison Birtwistle, Peter Zadek, Achim Freyer…
She created many new works and sang solo shows with Majella, Livius and Simon Stockhausen (piano and electronics). For more than twenty years she’s been working with Peter Palitzsch, long time assistant to Bertolt Brecht. Husmann and Palitzsch collaborated at the Berliner Ensemble and created an evening on Brecht songs which toured throughout Europe.
